The City of Des Plaines is a municipal government comprised of ten elected officials: the Mayor, City Clerk and eight Aldermen.
Des Plaines has a Council-Manager form of government, which means the City Council oversees the general administration, makes policy and sets the budget. The Council appoints a professional City Manager who serves as the City’s Chief Administrative Officer and is responsible to the Mayor and City Council for the efficient management and operation of all of the affairs of the City and its departments.

Meetings
All City Council meetings are open to the public (unless a specific exception applies under Illinois law). Meeting materials (agendas, packets) are posted on our City Council page and available for review in advance of meetings. The City Council meets on the first and third Monday of each month at 7 p.m., Room 102 in City Hall. In the case of a holiday, Council Meetings are held on the next day at the same time. All City Council meetings can be viewed on this website live and on demand, and can be viewed on DPTV (Channel 17 on local cable access).
The City has a number of boards and commissions that hold public meetings.
