Your Government

The City of Des Plaines is a municipal government comprised of ten elected officials: the Mayor, City Clerk and eight Aldermen.

Des Plaines has a Council-Manager form of government, which means the City Council oversees the general administration, makes policy and sets the budget. The Council appoints a professional City Manager who serves as the City’s Chief Administrative Officer and is responsible to the Mayor and City Council for the efficient management and operation of all of the affairs of the City and its departments.
