DPFD Performs Multiple Rescues in Early Morning Condominium Fire

At approximately 12:56 a.m., the Des Plaines Fire Department responded to a reported explosion and fire at 1279 Harding Street, a three‑story condominium building. Upon arrival, crews encountered heavy fire conditions. Firefighters, assisted by Des Plaines Police officers, conducted multiple ground‑ladder rescues from balconies during the initial stages of the incident.

Des Plaines & Chicago District Camp Ground Reach Settlement Agreement

The City of Des Plaines and the Chicago District Camp Ground Association and Chicago District Camp Ground, Inc. (collectively known as the Des Plaines Methodist Camp Ground) have reached a settlement regarding unsafe property conditions, flood control regulation violations, and various related legal claims. The City Council will consider approval of the agreement at its May 4, 2026, meeting.

City Council to Consider YMCA Purchase and Redevelopment Partnership

At its May 4 meeting, the Des Plaines City Council will consider purchasing the former Lattof YMCA building at 300 E. Northwest Highway. If approved, the Council would then vote on a public-private partnership with the Nicholas Family of Companies to redevelop the site.
