Illinois Department of Transportation Begins Two Projects in Des Plaines
Improvements Slated for Graceland Avenue, Jefferson Street, Lee Street, and Mannheim Road
Des Plaines, IL–The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) will begin two roadway improvement projects within the City of Des Plaines, impacting Graceland Avenue, Jefferson Street, Lee Street, and Mannheim Road.
The projects include resurfacing roadways, restriping lanes and crosswalks, upgrading sidewalk and curb accessibility to meet ADA standards, and improving pedestrian signals for enhanced safety and usability.
Construction is scheduled to begin the week of July 6, 2026, with completion anticipated in November 2026.
Work areas include:
- Graceland Avenue from Jefferson St to Lee Street/Mannheim Road
- Jefferson Street from Lee Street to Graceland Avenue
- Lee Street/Mannheim Road corridor from I-90 to Elk Boulevard
- Intersection at Mannheim Road and Touhy Avenue
Motorists should expect delays and allow extra travel time. Drivers are urged to follow posted signage, observe reduced speed limits in work zones, and remain alert for construction crews and equipment.
