Union Pacific, which owns the railroad through downtown Des Plaines, has been performing essential track maintenance to ensure safety. Unfortunately, this work is causing traffic delays along Miner Street and on the north and south roads in our downtown area. Staff at City Hall have been in contact with Union Pacific leaders to share our concerns. Union Pacific has assured the City that the work should be finished within the next two weeks, as long as there are no weather-related delays. If the construction timeline changes, the City will provide an update on its social media channels. In the meantime, City officials recommend allowing extra time to navigate the downtown area or seeking alternative routes.
